Libby's Story

Margie Elizabeth "Libby" Hathcock Simpson, 78, of Norwood, surrounded by her loving family, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 at Randall United Methodist Church. Rev. David McCauley and Rev. Randy Swaringen will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening, March 16, 2017 at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
Mrs. Simpson was born January 23, 1939 in Stanly County to the late Charlie and Marjorie Deese Hathcock. She had been an employee of Stanly Knitting Mills and Knitsters. Libby was a lifelong and active member of Randall United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and choir. Libby was very proud of her perfect grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were truly the light of her life! She was well known for her fried potatoes and homemade biscuits. Her favorite past - time was pulling for her Atlanta Braves!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hugh "Bob" Simpson and brothers, Carl, Buddy, Ralph and Frank Hathcock and sister Doris Hathcock Sides.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Simpson (Penny) of Norwood; daughters, Teri Simpson Bowers of Locust and Penny Simpson McLain(Alex Cousins) of Portland OR; five grandchildren, Holly Simpson March (Dave), Haley Simpson Whitley (Eric), Ashlie Bowers Thomas (Chris), Chase Bowers (Lauren) and Caroline Kirby McLain; seven great-grandchildren, Jett, Nathaniel, Dax, Zachary, Campbell, Bennett and Evie.
