Leora Cook's Story
Leora Cook Fine, 100, of NC Hwy 49, Denton, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Mountain Vista Health Park. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Alleghany United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Gould & Rev. Derald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.
Born in Davidson County on June 30, 1916, she was the daughter of William Robert and Jennie Lee Coggin Cook. She was a homemaker, a true farmers wife, a faithful and very active lifetime member of Alleghany UMC, serving as Sunday School Teacher, treasurer and served willingly in many capacities of the church. She was a member of the WMU, Young At Heart Club, Home Extension Club and was a volunteer at Mountain Vista for over 35 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laughton A. Fine in 1975, her son, Lowell Fine in 1975, brother, Hubert Ree Cook, 3 sisters, Hallie Fine, Sybil Berry and Violet Clark. She had great love for her entire family and was a positive influence to everyone she met. She was loved by her nieces and nephews, who called her "auntie".
She is survived by her daughter in law, Saundra Fine of New London; 3 grandchildren, Melanie Loflin (Clayton) of Denton, Andy Fine (Missy) of New London, and Beth Saville (Bobby) of New London; 6 Great-grandchildren, Jenny and Will Loflin, Cary and Christopher Fine, and Alex and Andrew Saville; Great-great-grandchild, Aubree Fine; sister-in-law Doris Cook; many nieces and nephews.
