Stephanie Vida Lardizabel Wawak, 74, of Midland, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 of natural causes at Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast in Concord.
Stevi was born February 16, 1943 in Chicago, IL to the late Dr. Francisco Jimeno Lardizabel and the late Delores Sherman Lardizabel. She was also preceded in death (2004) by her beloved husband of 41 years, Robert Laurence "Bobby" Wawak.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service to honor Stevi's life will follow at 5:00 pm in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. Continue to celebrate her life, after the service, by joining friends and family at her home. It was Stevi's wish that everyone wear bright colorful clothing.
Stevi is survived by her daughters Jaci Wawak of Raleigh, and Robin Wawak of Mooresville; grandchildren Lauri (Josh) Haigler, River, Ryder, and Rooke Pemberton; great-grandchildren Baylee and Reece Haigler; older sisters Jane Hawkins and late Sylvia Lardizabel; and younger sisters Linda Probst, Hedy Cheney, Lisa Fisher, Cara Lyons, Tina Novick, and their families; and close nephew Caleb Loss.
Stevi was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a very strong woman, who wore many hats throughout her life. She worked as a medical secretary for the VA Regional Complex Hospital in Chicago, IL with her father. Stevi then had a full career as the owner and operator of Wawak Motorsports NASCAR Race Team, selflessly supporting her husband, Bobby, in his racing dream. She also proudly served as a President of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary. Stevi believed in the Full Gospel faith, sharing her faith, often as a spiritual counselor, to her friends, family, and anyone in need. Stevi will be lovingly missed by all who knew her.
