Margie Ree Abernathy Laney, 90 of Jonesboro, TN previously North Wilkesboro passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Brookdale Colonial Heights, Kingsport, TN.
Born August 9, 1926 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late John Milton and Ollie Williams Abernathy. Along with her husband, Rev. Howard Laney, Margie served in numerous churches for over 50 years. She was Director of Missions for Stone Mountain Baptist Association for over 19 years. Margie was an adult teacher for 54 years and a Sunbeam leader and youth leader in church training. In addition to her parents, husband Rev. Howard E. Laney, 4 brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death.
Left to cherish her memory: Son: Rick Laney and wife Becky of New London, NC; 2 Daughters: Carolyn Wells and husband Joe of Jonesboro, TN; Debbie Laney of Jonesboro, TN.; Granddaughter: Pam R. Harris; 3 Grandsons: Ricky Laney, Jr.; Rev. Dusty Laney; Jeremy Laney; Great Granddaughter: Kacie Harris; 3 Great Grandsons: Mykel, Nash & Tate Laney; Sister: Pauline A. Helderman
The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dusty Laney and Rev. Guy Helms officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
