Jewel Efird Thompson, 94, of Albemarle passed away April 1 2017 in Stanly Manor. A graveside service will be held in Fairview Memorial Park at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4th with Pastor Delane Burris officiating. At 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church there will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Mrs. Thompson's life. Following the Memorial Service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
Born February 26, 1923 in Stanly County, NC she was the daughter of the late Cromer Etwell Efird and Rosetta Whitley Efird. Mrs. Thompson worked in the Wiscassett Mills until 1956 and from 1956 until 1973 worked at Efird's Grocery. She was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband Clegg Hall "Tip" Thompson on October 17, 2001. Survivors include son Joe Thompson and wife Barbara of Albemarle, and Sue Chandler and husband Lonnie of New London, sisters Joan Talbert of Albemarle and Evelyn Poplin of Concord, 7 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family requests that memorials be made to Grace Baptist Church, 644 Edgemont Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care is entrusted with arrangements.
