James "Jim"'s Story
Mr. James "Jim" Lindsay Ivey, 84, of Norwood, NC, died on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was born on May 5, 1933, to the late George and Vesta Ivey. Mr. Ivey earned a master's degree in education from UNC Chapel Hill and a master's degree in French from Middlebury College in Vermont. He was a proud
U. S. Army Veteran who served with the U. S. Army Signal Corps in Paris, France. Mr. Ivey taught French and English as a second language at various universities in North Carolina and Ohio. He enjoyed his retirement years gardening at his beloved birthplace in Norwood, NC. He immersed himself in his passion for flowers by working and volunteering as a Floral Designer. Mr. Ivey was also a loyal associate to clients of the Men's Department at Belk in Albemarle. He enjoyed playing bridge with friends and sharing stories about area history. Mr. Ivey is survived by a brother, George (Shirley) Ivey; nephews, Ken Ivey and Phil (Sonja) Ivey; great-niece, Savannah Ivey; dedicated cousin, Lynne Moore; loyal friend, Les Young. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene "Chuck" Ivey. Memorial service plans will be announced at a later date.
