Carlene Doby Russell, 80, of Albemarle, N.C passed away April 11, 2017 in CHS Northeast. Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday April 15, 2017 at Congregational Christian Church with Rev. John Giddens and Rev. Nathan Fox officiating with burial following in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends on Friday evening 6 until 8 p.m. at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care.
Mrs. Russell was born on December 10, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Carl Doby and Beulah Holt Doby. She was the co-owner of Russells of Albemarle (Economy Auto Supply) and was a lifetime member of Congregational Christian Church.
Mrs. Russell was a Member of the Eastern Star, former Mother Advisor of Assembly #32 of Rainbow Girls, Former Grand Deputy of NC Rainbow for Girls,and a Member of the Grand Cross of Color. She was also very active in her church and was a Deaconess, Choir Member, Member of the Ladies Circle, Member of the Food Committee, and helped organize the Young Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Russell was the first Female Treasurer of Congregational Christian Church in 1957 taking the place of her husband who went in military service. She served as treasurer for many years afterwards. Mrs. Russell assisted her husband in forming the Dixie Girls Softball League in Stanly County and in coaching Middle School ball, little league and women's softball.
She was a loving wife to her husband, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put her family first. She and Ken were married for 62 wonderful years and had unconditional love for one another. During their lifetime together they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family, especially holidays and birthdays. She taught everyone to love wholeheartedly and unconditionally. She was driven by a strong faith in God which she shared with her family.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Gene Russell of the home whom she was married to for 62 years. Other survivors include daughters Debra Eudy and husband Lynn of Albemarle, N.C., and Lisa Almond and Fiancee Oscar Talbert of Albemarle, N.C., five grandchildren Derek Almond, McKinley Almond, Ryan Eudy and wife Leslie, Meleah Oliver and husband Timmy, Kaleigh Turner and husband Derek and six great-grandchildren Jayden and Peyton Oliver, Ella and Cory Eudy, Bryn and Aaron Turner.
