Alma Jewell Curlee Hudson, 90, of Norwood, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday evening, December 22, 2016 at her home.
At her request, a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Silver Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Little will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12-1:30 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
Mrs. Hudson was born November 13, 1926 in Stanly County to the late Charlie Cecil Curlee and Lillie Mae Turner Curlee. Her family will always cherish the memory of her 90th birthday celebration that was held on November 13 of this year.
She was a retiree of Joe's Donut Dinette and was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and most memorable was her being the Youth Choir Director for many years.
Alma Jewell was a faithful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a mother to many children outside of her own family. She often mentioned that she felt her purpose in life was to care for children. She loved unconditionally and always saw the positive in people.
She was a very talented seamstress, having made many beautiful outfits for her family as well as others and she taught each of her daughters to sew. Alma Jewell loved putting jigsaw puzzles together and then displaying them for others to enjoy.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward Lee Hudson; son, Darrell Ray Hudson, grandson, Joey Thompson, great-granddaughter, Hagen Efird, and one brother, Kent Curlee.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Kathryn Thompson of Norwood, Sylvia Helms (Steve) of Marshville, Sonya Efird (Rickey), Sandra Tucker (Charles) and Dale Ford (Roger), all of Albemarle; brothers, Tecil Curlee (Sue) of Charlotte, Donald Curlee of Albemarle and Kibbee Curlee (Barbara) of Albemarle; sister, Mary Rose Sullivan of Norwood; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to: Silver Springs Baptist Church Bereavement Fund or Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie or the donor's choice.
